As at 3 December 2023, The Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Adrian Schrinner, has resigned from the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Intergovernmental Leaders' Forum
The Lord Mayor now has a clear position against the Gabba Stadium demolition and rebuild in its current form.
As of 3 December, the Lord Mayor has quit the Brisbane 2032 Olympics Leaders' forum, and withdrawn support of the current Gabba stadium plan.
He highlights the lack of consultation regarding the Gabba redevelopment and its impacts. He calls for the community interests to be prioritised.
He raises concerns about transparency of the process, highlighting the decision to scrap the promised independent coordination authority and the unilateral decision to redevelop the Gabba without meaningful consultation.
The Lord Mayor emphasises the urgent need for an independent review and evaluation of the decisions made regarding the Gabba redevelopment. He says that this review should consider alternative options to the full demolition and rebuilding of the stadium, such as refurbishment or relocation.
